Our JHS Vocal Music Mission Statement:

Jenks Vocal Music program is inspired by a tradition of excellence in our community. Our award-winning program seeks to develop and enhance the vocal abilities of students. Through instruction, performance, and education, singers build their vocal talent and emerge as confident young adults with a lifelong love of music. Our program inspires students to reach their greatest potential musically and academically.

Michael Shimp

Michael Shimp

Michael Shimp received his Bachelors of Vocal Performance from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 2003 where he began his operatic studies in the Tulsa Opera Young Artist Program and Inspiration Point in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Mr. Shimp taught Choral Music in Owasso from 2007-2018.

Shimp is in his 16th year of teaching and is well known for his work in teaching and directing young singers to achieve excellence and in organizing regional competitions such as Oklahoma Children's All-State Choir for which he will serve as state co-chair in 2017-2018 Oklahoma Circle the State with Song for which he served as state co-chair in 2016-2017, Region R Coordinator from 2012-2015, and Guest Clinician from 2015-2017. He also served as Guest Clinician in November 2015 for both the ECOCDA Regional Treble Choir and the Western Oklahoma Junior High Honor Choir. Michael has served on the Choral Staff of the Oklahoma Ambassadors of Music from April 2011 to the present Mr. Shimp's choirs have been selected at various events including , Oklahoma City Thunder, Tulsa 66ers basketball games and was a Honor Group for the Oklahoma Music Educators Convention in January of 2014. Shimp was also the 2010-2011 Teacher of the Year for the Owasso 6th Grade Center. Shimp's professional memberships include NAfME, OkMEA, ACDA, and OCDA. Mr. Shimp is the Quad Chair for Oklahoma Music Educators Northeast All-State region.

In addition to teaching, Mr. Shimp gives voice lessons. He has three children, Grayson, Elijah and Maggie, and is married to his wonderful wife Mandy.

Lisa Lahmeyer

Lisa Lahmeyer

Ms. Lahmeyer is a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Music Education - instrumental and vocal. She started her career teaching both band and choir at Webster High school before becoming a Trojan in 2006. She spent 11 years teaching 7th and 8th grade vocal before moving over to the High School in 2017.

Ms. Lahmeyer is an active musician all around northeast Oklahoma playing trumpet and piano for Theatre Tulsa, The Pollard Theatre, Town and Gown, The German American Society of Tulsa's Blaskepelle, and Mach Schnell Blaskepelle, as well as many churches as a trumpet soloist. 

She taught musical theatre classes at The Dance and Performing Arts Center in Tulsa for many years. She also loves the opportunities to teach private voice lessons to students in musical theatre areas as well as helping them with the Solo/Ensemble and All State literature.

She is the proud mother of John (Class of 2020) and Nicholas (Class of 2017), who were both active members of the vocal department. She is a member of NafME, OkMEA, ACDA, and OCDA, where she serves as Quad Chair for Oklahoma Choral Directors Association Northeast All-State region.  Ms. Lahmeyer is very excited to be a part of the Jenks Vocal team teaching beginning and intermediate Treble choirs, Trojan Spirit and Trojan Nation show choirs, and the Show Choir Band!
