Jenks Vocal Music Staff

Michael Shimp received his Bachelor of Vocal Performance from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 2003, where he began his operatic studies in the Tulsa Opera Young Artist Program and Inspiration Point in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Mr. Shimp currently teaches at Jenks High School in Jenks, Oklahoma, where he has served since 2018. He previously taught choral music in Owasso from 2007 to 2018.

Now in his 19th year of teaching, Shimp is well known for his work in developing young singers and for his leadership in organizing regional and state competitions. He currently serves as Quad Chair for the Oklahoma Music Educators Association Northeast All-State region and has served as OkCDA Vocal Jazz All-State Chair and Co-Chair. He served as state co-chair for the Oklahoma Children's All-State Choir, and from 2015 to 2024 he served Oklahoma Circle the State with Song as state co-chair, Region R Coordinator, and Guest Clinician. In November 2015, Shimp was a guest clinician for both the ECOCDA Regional Treble Choir and the Western Oklahoma Junior High Honor Choir.

Mr. Shimp has served on the choral staff of the Oklahoma Ambassadors of Music since 2011 and will travel with the organization on its European tour in the summer of 2027. His choirs have been selected as Honor Group for the Oklahoma Music Educators Association Convention, including his Owasso choir in January 2014 and his Jenks Advanced Men's Choir in 2022. Shimp was named 2010-2011 Teacher of the Year for the Owasso 6th Grade Center. His professional memberships include NAfME, OkMEA, ACDA, and OCDA.

Lisa Lahmeyer is in her 21st year with Jenks Vocal Music. An active musician and educator in the Tulsa area, she has served as Music Director and performer with numerous Northeast Oklahoma organizations, including Jenks HS, Theatre Tulsa, Tulsa Project Theatre, Sand Springs Community Theatre, Broken Arrow Community Theatre, The Pollard Theatre (Guthrie), and Town and Gown (Stillwater).

Lisa taught musical theatre classes at The Dance and Performing Arts Center for many years and continues to offer private voice lessons in both musical theatre and classical styles. She is the proud mother of John and his wife Fabi, Nicholas and his wife Karley, and the delighted grandmother of two precious granddaughters, Leighann and Clara.

A graduate of Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Music Education in instrumental and vocal studies, Lisa began her career teaching band and choir at Webster High School in 1998 before joining Jenks Public Schools. She spent 11 years teaching 7th and 8th grade choir before transitioning to Jenks High School in 2017. There, she has taken on a wide range of responsibilities, including lead teacher for beginning and intermediate choirs, Director of the Trojan Spirit Show Choir, AP Music Theory, class piano, assistant with the Trojanaires and advanced choir, and Director of the B Street Show Choir Band.

Lisa is a member of NAfME, OkMEA, ACDA, and OkCDA, and currently serves on the OkCDA board as the Show Choir Research and Repertoire chair.
